Commercial Portfolio Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Commercial Portfolio Manager to join our team in Watertown, MN.  In this role, you will support the management and administration of commercial loan relationships by performing credit analysis, portfolio monitoring, and relationship servicing activities. You will partner with Commercial Bankers, Credit Administration, and other internal teams to maintain credit quality, ensure regulatory compliance, and support strong client relationships. You will also play a key role in underwriting activities, portfolio monitoring and credit administration.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Senior Bankers:  Assist in preparing client proposals and presentations. Prepare loan proposals and assist in evaluating commercial loan applications, including financial statement analysis and risk assessment.
  • Credit Analysis & Portfolio Support:  Independently manage an assigned portfolio. Underwrite new and existing commercial loan relationships, including C&I, CRE, and agricultural credits.  Prepare credit memoranda, annual relationship reviews, renewals, modifications, and extensions in accordance with bank policy.  Assist with risk grading evaluation and supporting documentation. Monitor covenant compliance, collateral requirements, insurance coverage, and reporting ticklers.
  • Client Relationship Support:  Serve as primary or co‑primary for assigned commercial clients regarding routine servicing needs. Participate in client meetings to discuss credit structures, performance expectations, and compliance requirements. Coordinate loan closings, documentation follow‑up, and post‑closing requirements. Partner with Commercial Bankers on relationship strategy, credit solutions, and cross‑sell opportunities. Manage difficult or sensitive credit conversations in a professional and constructive manner.  
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Ensure all loan documentation, financial reporting, and portfolio activities meet bank policy and regulatory requirements. Proactively identify credit deterioration, policy exceptions, or risk concerns and escalate as appropriate. Participate in regulatory examinations, audits, and internal reviews. Work closely with Credit Administration, Loan Operations, and Compliance to support documentation, closings, and audits. Interpret and apply credit policy and regulatory guidance consistently across the portfolio. Maintain accurate and complete loan files and portfolio records.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience: 6 or more years of progressive experience in commercial credit, portfolio management, or commercial banking.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.  
  • Technical & Analytical Skills: Strong understanding of regulatory expectations, credit policy, and loan structuring.  Ability to evaluate risk and make sound credit decisions. Strong analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
